What are Eggies?

Eggies are a new kitchen tool made to help you cook hard-boiled eggs without having the trouble of peeling the shells off. In actuality, an Eggie is an egg-shaped container in which you cook your eggs, leaving them perfectly egged shaped and even seasoned if you want. The beauty of Eggies is that it saves you the time boiling and waiting for the egg to cool before peeling it. With Eggies, you just unscrew the lid after boiling and slide it out, ready to eat.

You might have seen a demonstration of this on TV recently. Why didn’t anyone think of this earlier? It’s a really clever idea.

Eggies is a very simple device with no mechanical parts. It’s easy to use and will produce perfectly cooked, boiled eggs without wasting time peeling the shells off. This will save you a lot of time and mess.

Eggies comes in two parts, a bottom container and a screw top. As there are no mechanical parts, it will never break down.

How do Eggies work?

Just unscrew the egg shaped container, break your egg, and drop it into the Eggie.  You can use egg whites only, whole eggs or even add seasoning before you boil it. For a real treat, chop up some onion, peppers, ham, or sausage and throw them in too for an omelet-style breakfast!

Then twist the top on and boil it in a saucepan like you would normally. You will need to boil it for between 5- 10 minutes.

When the egg is cooked, take it out of the pan and twist open the top. Your perfectly boiled egg will be ready to eat. No peeling of egg shells required and no more broken egg whites either!

Eggies is so easy to use even a novice cook should have no problem making perfect hard boiled eggs with it.

Cooking eggs with Eggies results in an egg that is shaped like half an egg with a flat bottom. So if you plan to eggs for canapés or whole, it will sit nicely on a plate when placed on the flat side.

The Eggies System would be perfect for anyone on a high protein, low carb or low GI diet where eggs or egg whites are featured in many of the recipes. Using the Eggies System to cook your eggs will save you a lot of time and effort in preparing your healthy, nutritionally balanced diets. This can really help you save time in keeping up with specific diet requirements as seen in the Atkins or Dukan diet.

A little info on eggs

Eggs are the ultimate fast food, they are easy to cook, easy to transport and nutritionally they have a healthy combination of protein, carbohydrate and fat that is recommended in a lot of diets. Eggs are also a very versatile food that you can eat on their own, either soft boiled, hard boiled, scrambled, poached, fried or even in an omelet.

One of the most popular pack lunches is an egg salad sandwich, but this involves boiling a lot of eggs and peeling them, which can me time consuming and messy.  Another favorite summer dish is potato salad which, again, calls for hard-boiled eggs.  Or maybe you’re taking devilled eggs to a picnic and you’re dreading the preparation time.  Consider shortening that prep time with Eggies.

Eggs and nutrition myths

Eggs are very nutritious and are the ultimate fast food. It has the best source of high quality protein. Nutritional studies have shown that there is no risk of high cholesterol with eggs and since that myth has been dispelled, they have also said that there is no limit to the number of eggs to be eaten each day. Eggs are the perfect food if you are on a high protein or Low GI diet.

Benefits of using Eggies

  • With Eggies, you will get mess free egg cooking.
  • It is fast and easy to use, even a beginner can use this and cook perfect hard boiled eggs
  • It will save you time too as you don’t have to wait for the egg to cool and you don’t have the hassle of peeling off the shells.
  • If you like to cater for large groups or for a big family, using Eggies to cook your eggs will speed things up for you. You simply work out the number of eggs that you need to cook, put them in the Eggies and set them to boil. Set a regular kitchen timer and when they are done, you can just slip them out of the non stick Eggies System containers and they are ready to eat, decorate or use in your recipes. It certainly is a time saver.
  • You can choose to boil just the egg whites only instead of the whole egg and save the yolks to make mayonnaise or use in another recipe.
  • On the flip side, if you like the taste of yolks, you can boil your egg with 2 yolks instead of one.
  • You can also fill your Eggies System container with eggs from cartons very easily, so now you don’t need to just make omelettes with them. What a great alternative to making egg white omelettes!
  • You can also season your eggs before cooking or add more ingredients like herbs, onions and cheese into the Eggie before you cook it. Saves you a few steps and it’s the ultimate fast food.

We found this review by PJ Vegas on Amazon.com.  I have noticed some people complaining about cleaning and the multiple parts,  PJ Doesn’t seem to mind. Hopefully this will help you in making your decision on whether to buy Eggies.

Eggies Review:

I guess Eggies are a love it or hate it item. I personally LOVE this product. I make 6 large, hard boiled eggs each time. The one thing that I really like is that if all the hard boiled eggs aren’t being used at once you can store the cooked eggs, in their containers, right in the fridge for use the next day. I always hated peeling the shells off.

You MUST read the directions and it is also helpful to watch the infomercial. After oiling (I just use Crisco) the insides assemble everything but the little top that has the little ring on top. I crack my egg into one of my PourPerfect measuring cups. It makes it so much easier to get the egg into the container which I can hold securely with one hand. Put the little top on and be sure to hand tighten all parts. Place the Eggies in a pot of WARM water.

One reviewer said that they thought it was dangerous when they tried putting the Eggies in boiling water. After the water comes to a boil I slow boil my Eggies for 16 minutes – PERFECT EVERY TIME. I do admit that I have a little trouble getting the cooked egg out but just run a dull knife around the upper edge. I only bought a box of six to try and I’m going to buy another box.

To clean them I just soak them a bit in hot, soapy water. I’ve not had a problem cleaning them. The parts are of no bother to me.

So, I should have posted this right after my post about our Eggies purchase, but I wanted to detail the confirmation email I received just after ordering.  I know many people don’t feel good about As Seen on TV companies, so I wanted to reassure any skeptics out there that I DID receive a confirmation email!

It has the usual information – name, order date, order number, item number, payment method, etc.  There is a link for a “free shipping” shipping rebate which goes to some sort of free shipping membership program you can sign up for.

It also confirms that it will be 2-6 weeks for delivery and that my credit card won’t be charged until the order ships.  There is a thirty day guarantee in case I’m not happy.  So, that’s pretty much it!  Stay tuned for our Eggies Purchase Part 2 when our Eggies order arrives.  We’ll be doing a video review as well, so check back soon.

The new Eggies Product and its inventor Betsy Kaufman were just featured in the New York Times. Not many As Seen On TV products make quite such a splash! In this case everything from the unlikely inventor to the idea,  invention process, and taking of the product to market is quite a story.

Betsy Kaufman is a former TV anchor, freelance producer, wife and mother. She is not an inventor. But one early morning while she was boiling some eggs the idea for “Egg Toss” dawned on her – a container that eggs could be cracked into and boiled without the shell. Not only would it make life easier but peeling eggs often leaves them looking quite bad, not at all suitable for deviled eggs at a picnic or party.

After searching Google to see if someone else had come up with the same idea, Mrs. Kaufman came up empty handed.  She decided to submit her idea to Edison Nation, the business run by the producers of the PBS TV show Everyday Edisons.

Edison Nation takes ideas from normal people like you and I and runs with them, often taking them to market and splitting any profit with the inventor 50/50. Not a bad deal for someone who has no idea where to start with producing or marketing a new idea.

Mrs. Kaufman’s idea was accepted, produced and turned into the wildly popular Eggies product that we have all seen, you know where – on TV!

Now that Mrs. Kaufman’s story has gotten out, it has inspired many would-be inventors to start pursuing their ideas. This phenomena has been fondly referred to on forums and around the internet as “the Betsy Effect”.

If you would like to try out the results of  “the Betsy Effect” (Eggies) for yourself you can go to the official Eggies website.

Buying Eggies

Since we couldn’t find any thorough reviews by real Eggies users, my husband and I have decided to purchase the Eggies system ourselves and review it on this site.  First we’ll blog the purchase process for you so you know what the real deal is with Eggies.

This evening I’m ordering my Eggies system.  I’ll be using the official Eggies site to order from, which I’ve decided is the best way to order Eggies.

The ordering process in detail

From the home page of the Eggies site, I’ve clicked on the “Order Now” button.  A pop up appeared to get my address and credit card information.  I can also select the quantity of Eggies I want, in sets of two (6 each x 2= 12 total).  I’ve chosen one set of two, with the understanding that I’ll get the extra 6 for free, paying only the additional shipping and handling fee of $7.99.

An order confirmation page pops up offering me another free Eggies set for only the shipping and handling fee.  There is quite a large button to say “yes” to this offer, but a rather small “no thanks” button.  If you don’t want any more, be careful!

Yet another confirmation page appears with an even more discounted Eggies product!  This time they’re offering the set of 12 Eggies for only $7.00 plus an additional shipping and handling fee (this also includes 2 egg slicers).  I’ve chosen “no thanks” again.

And once again, another offer appears!  This one includes an egg separator, a double-sized egg scrambler, a jumbo omelet Eggies container, and 12 regular Eggies, for only $10 more per set.  I’m a little confused by the offer and I’m opting for “no thanks” again, although I wouldn’t mind having an egg separator or the jumbo omelet container.

What do you think happens next?  That’s right, another offer!  This one is for a $7.99 handheld food chopper with free shipping and handling.  Again, no thanks.

And now another offer, this one for a mesh bag to hold all my Eggies in.  This one is for $4.95 and free shipping and handling.  I once again opt for the no thanks button.

Finished!

Ah, finally!  A real confirmation page with my information, a customer contact number, and a notice that it will be 2-6 weeks.  And I’m done – can’t wait for my Eggies to come.  No more peeling for me!

So, that was a lot of extra offers, some of which were pretty decent, although I didn’t jump on any.  I was concerned about being “conned” into something I didn’t want, but fortunately it was pretty easy just to choose “no thanks” to each of them.

Check back in 2-6 weeks to read Part 2 in which I detail the Eggies product and whether or not it stands up to the test.  Or just subscribe to our RSS feed to get the latest updates.  Thanks for reading!

Eggies for arthritis

Although it is hard to find reviews by Eggies users since the product is so new that there aren’t many reviews out there, we did find several comments by people who have arthritis or know someone who has arthritis who loves their Eggies.  This makes sense, since arthritis would severely limit your ability to peel a hard-boiled egg.

If you suffer from an illness that keeps you from using your hands a lot, Eggies would be a great option for you!

Eggies for farm fresh eggs

Another thing that really caught our interest was the number of people who raise their own chickens and are purchasing Eggies.  My husband and I have chickens and we know first-hand that farm fresh eggs are much harder to peel than store-bought ones.

When eggs are fresh, the shell will often take huge chunks of egg with it when being peeled.  No longer!  Eggies makes a nice, clean, neatly peeled egg possible.  Check back to read our review of Eggies once we purchase and use them!

Eggies is a great new way prepare eggs. If you’re tired of the time it takes to hard-boil your eggs and peel them individually, this product is for you! There is absolutely no peeling necessary. If you would like to include more eggs in your diet but just hate the prep time, keep looking around at some of the Eggies reviews we have by customers who have bought and used Eggies.

Even a novice cook knows the importance of being able to boil eggs, and eggs are one of the cheapest products available. Fortunately, they’re also one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can consume.

The problem is that after you boil them, they need time to cool off, then even more time to peel! No matter how fast you are at egg peeling, this can still be a tedious process. Eggies removes the shell for you, saving you time and effort.

The way Eggies works is by allowing you to crack your egg open, drop it into the Eggies container, then boil just like you would normally. An added feature is that the Eggies are shaped with a flat side, so your hard-boiled eggs won’t roll and are easily made into deviled eggs.

Eggies ReviewAnther great thing about Eggies is that because you’re cooking without a shell, you can add seasoning or other ingredients to the egg before boiling it. You could even add ingredients such as onion, garlic, bell peppers, ham, or sausage to make an Eggies omelet-style breakfast.

If you’re concerned about cholesterol, you can just cook the egg whites in your Eggies container and prepare a perfectly healthy breakfast that won’t pack on pounds. You might even add some herbs or seasoning to add to the aesthetic value of your meal.

Part of the current Eggies offer is an egg slicer which allows you to easily slice up your eggs for salads or decorative appeal. You’ll be amazed at how quickly eggs become a part of your regular diet – good for your health and for your pocketbook.

Eggies truly are a clever, useful addition to any kitchen. They’re the perfect marriage of great presentation and easy preparation. Consider giving up the hassle of peeling all those eggs and try Eggies for yourself. I know you won’t be disappointed.
